🏊‍♀️ Understanding Swimming Stages: What Level Is Your Child At?

Intro:

When starting swimming lessons, many parents wonder what each stage actually means and how their child will progress. At Swim With Style, our structured programme is designed to guide swimmers from their very first splash all the way through to confident, independent swimming.

Bath Babies (6 weeks – 6 months)

Our Bath Babies classes are all about gentle introduction to water. These sessions focus on bonding, sensory play, and helping babies feel calm and comfortable in the water.

Baby & Toddler (4 months – 5 years)

As children grow, lessons begin to develop water confidence, movement, and early skills. Parents or carers join in the water, supporting their child every step of the way.

Non-Swimmers (Octopus)

This is where independent learning begins. Children start entering the water with the teacher, working in small groups to build confidence, basic strokes, and water safety skills.

Advanced Beginners & Improvers

At this stage, swimmers begin refining technique. They work on breathing, coordination, and swimming short distances independently.

Advanced (Angelfish)

Swimmers develop stronger technique, endurance, and confidence in deeper water. Stroke development becomes more structured and controlled.

Strokes Lanes (Sharks)

This stage focuses on improving all strokes, building stamina, and refining technique to a higher level.

Junior Lifeguard Academy

A fun and engaging programme teaching water safety, rescue skills, and lifesaving techniques — perfect for older children looking to build confidence and responsibility.

Why Progression Matters

A structured pathway ensures:

  • ✔ Consistent development

  • ✔ Increased confidence

  • ✔ Strong water safety skills

  • ✔ Clear goals for every swimmer
